In June 2017, I studied abroad in The Netherlands via Northern Arizona University. The program was centered around design research, and we collected information to identify the trends in Dutch typography. We also visited several museums, design studios, and universities as part of local, experiential learning. The goal of this project was to develop an infographic research poster based on the experience. The solution utilizes a bold condensed typeface for easy identification of headers, along with a color palette that reflects the flag colors of both countries. Colored background columns—mirroring the stripes on each flag—separate sections of information. Simple illustrations and graphs highlight quantifiable data, while lists and quotes detail qualitative data. Finally, photographic samples exemplify each trend to help visualize Dutch design.
